About

Built by Practitioners, for Practitioners

The AIE Network exists because AI is too important to leave to hype cycles and vendor marketing. We provide the signal in the noise.

Mark R. Hinkle, founder of The AIE Network

Our Mission

The Complete AI Learning Ecosystem

Most AI education stops at a one-time course or a single newsletter. We built something different — a complete, continuous learning ecosystem that keeps business professionals ahead of the curve, not just caught up.

Continuous Learning, Not One-Time Training

AI moves too fast for a single course to stay relevant. Our ecosystem delivers daily insights, weekly deep dives, monthly workshops, and structured courses — so your knowledge compounds over time instead of expiring.

Every Layer of AI Mastery

From curated news to hands-on tutorials, from executive strategy workshops to a 5,000+ member practitioner community — we cover every dimension of AI upskilling under one roof. No gaps, no silos.

Built for Business Professionals

We don't teach you to build AI models — we teach you to use AI to transform your work. Every piece of content is designed for the business professional who needs practical, applicable AI skills today.

Stay Relevant as AI Changes Business

AI is not a one-time disruption — it's a continuous transformation. Our network ensures you're always informed, always skilled, and always connected to the practitioners leading the way.

The Network

A Holistic AI Learning Ecosystem

We don't just publish content or sell courses. The AIE Network is an integrated ecosystem where every property works together to build your AI mastery — from daily insights to structured training, from community connection to ethical governance.

This is what makes us different. Other programs offer a course and move on. We provide a continuous learning ecosystem — daily content, live events, structured training, and a practitioner community — all working together to keep you ahead.

The Founder

Mark R. Hinkle

Mark Hinkle has spent more than three decades building communities around emerging technology — long before "community-led growth" became a buzzword. His career tracks the major inflection points of modern enterprise technology: from the early internet and open source, through systems management and cloud computing, to application modernization and now artificial intelligence. Each chapter taught him something that shapes how The AIE Network operates today.

In the mid-1990s, Mark was part of the early Linux and open source movement, working at MindSpring Enterprises (later EarthLink) during the first wave of commercial internet adoption — where he managed a $100 million business unit and 2,500 employees at an ISP that earned J.D. Power's highest overall customer satisfaction rating. He saw firsthand how open source software disrupted entrenched vendors — not through superior marketing, but through superior community. That lesson became foundational: the best technology education happens in communities, not classrooms. He went on to become the Editor-in-Chief of LinuxWorld and Enterprise Open Source magazine, and authored Windows to Linux Business Desktop Migration (Pearson Education), which was read over 10 million times online.

Mark's journey into enterprise infrastructure began at Zenoss, an open source systems management company, where he grew the Zenoss Core project to over 100,000 users across 20,000 organizations on all seven continents — driving 96% of the company's first $20 million in revenue through developer relations and product-led growth. The project won the InfoWorld Best Open Source Software Award and the Enterprise Open Source Reader's Choice Award. From there, he moved into cloud computing at Cloud.com, where he served as VP of Community for CloudStack — one of the first open source cloud computing platforms. When Citrix acquired Cloud.com for $250M+, Mark ran their Open Source Business Office, led Citrix's efforts around OpenDaylight, the Xen Project, and Apache CloudStack, and created the Build a Cloud program that educated thousands of users on deploying cloud infrastructure. He is an Apache Software Foundation committer and PMC member for Apache CloudStack.

Mark's reputation as a bridge-builder between technology communities and enterprise adoption led to The Linux Foundation, where he served as Vice President of Marketing, ran Linux.com, and oversaw marketing for the Core Infrastructure Initiative — a major project to fund and support critical open source software in the wake of Heartbleed. He then became the Executive Director of the Node.js Foundation, where he unified a fractured JavaScript ecosystem — with members including Microsoft, IBM, Google, Intel, and PayPal — into a single, governed open source project that now powers millions of applications.

The common thread across every role was the same: Mark built the bridges between complex technology and the business professionals who needed to use it. He translated technical capability into business value — not through hype, but through practical education, honest assessment, and community support.

In 2018, Mark co-founded and served as CEO of TriggerMesh, a cloud-native integration company focused on application modernization and event-driven architecture. Venture-backed by Index Ventures and Crane Venture Partners, TriggerMesh was named a Gartner Cool Vendor in Cloud Computing, won the Intellyx Digital Innovator Award, and was recognized as an NC TECH Top Ten Startup to Watch. The experience capped Mark's journey through the full arc of modern infrastructure: from bare-metal Linux to cloud-native integration.

Then in 2023, as generative AI began transforming every industry, Mark recognized a familiar pattern: a powerful new technology was being obscured by hype, and business professionals needed a trusted guide. He founded Peripety Labs and launched The AI Enterprise newsletter. He also co-founded All Things AI, a 5,000+ member community whose inaugural conference in 2025 drew over 1,600 attendees — with sponsors including IBM, Red Hat, and GitLab, and speakers from Amazon, Netflix, Meta, Mistral AI, and GitHub.

What started as a single weekly email has grown into The AIE Network — a five-day-a-week publication reaching 250,000+ subscribers, the AIOS training curriculum taken by over 21,000 business leaders, the All Things AI conference and community, and a novel on AI governance called The Human Signal. The mission remains the same as it was in the Linux days: help professionals work smarter with the technology that matters.

The novel introduces practical frameworks for democratic AI governance, human-in-the-loop systems, and avoiding what the book calls the "Breakdown Effect" — the pattern where AI optimization erodes the human systems it depends on.

The concepts from The Human Signal form the ethical foundation of all AIE Network training and content. It is required reading for the AI for Executives workshop, and its principles are explored in depth in our AI Governance Guide.
